Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of The Reader's Hangout (“the Service”), operated by [Operator / Organisation name]. By requesting access to or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility and account approval
The Service is a private tool for running a bookclub. Accounts require approval by an organiser, who may approve, reject, or later revoke access at their discretion. You must provide accurate information and be old enough to consent to these Terms in your jurisdiction.
2. Your account
You sign in with a passwordless “magic link” sent to your email address. You are responsible for keeping access to your email secure and for activity that occurs under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Membership and participation
The Service manages meeting registrations on a first-come, first-served basis with a capacity limit, a waitlist, and timed seat confirmations. By participating you acknowledge that:
- Seats are limited; when a seat opens you may be promoted from the waitlist and given a limited window to confirm.
- If you do not confirm in time, you return to the waitlist and the next eligible member is offered the seat.
- Missing a meeting you were confirmed for (a no-show) may incur a penalty that affects your waitlist priority.
- Organisers may reorder the waitlist, mark attendance, and remove participants to keep records accurate.
The specific waitlist and penalty rules are shown within the app and may be adjusted by organisers.
4. Acceptable use
- Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Do not misuse, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its data.
- Do not harass other members or submit unlawful, infringing, or offensive content.
5. Content you submit
You may submit book proposals, including a title, author, and a cover image URL. You confirm you have the right to share what you submit, and you grant the club permission to display that content within the Service for the purpose of running votes. We may remove content that is inappropriate or violates these Terms.
6. Organiser rights
Organisers manage events, rosters, voting, member roles, and account approvals. Decisions about participation, attendance records, and penalties rest with the organisers, subject to the rules shown in the app.
7. Availability and changes
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
8. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. You use the Service at your own risk.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, [Operator / Organisation name] and the organisers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law.
10. Termination
We may suspend or remove your account if you breach these Terms or if an organiser revokes your access. You may stop using the Service at any time and request account deletion as described in our Privacy Policy.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above, and continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
